Stall

The day started with me setting off on a brisk, sunny morning to London. Having to carry all the stall stuff & weights for the contest made going a little hard, but luckily I managed to bump into a couple of friends on the train who were also going to the vegfest & so they were soon drafted into becoming willing helpers helping lift the bag up & down stairs  on our journey to the Olympia.

I should have got pictures of our adventures, but time was tight to make the connection & so it was more like a race than a leisurely stroll between trains.

Saturday

Saturday was a time to meet up with old friends & new at the stall.

vegan runners

Our old friends the vegan runners were there. In command was Peter steering the vegan runners to ever greater successes!

patrik

The mountain of muscle known as Patrik Baboumian attended again this year, which was awesome! He is not only big, but one of the nicest guys you can meet.

pat

Pat Reeves World record holding Powerlifter & nutritional expert, popped by to see us.

matt & james

Running marvel Matt Woodman & Savate champion James Southwood came over for a bit of a chat.

William

Saturday Evening

indian veg

In the evening we popped to an eat as much as you like place. Two of the dishes were not vegan, but the many others were. There was also a drink called a 'Lassi', that was a fruity thing normally made with yoghurt, but this one was 'veganised' & tasted really nice.  Also taking a guy who is trying to go up a weight class to an all you can eat is just good thinking!

That was the end of our Saturday adventures.  We didn't have any special events organised until the Sunday. That was when most of our events were taking place.

Sunday

alex maz

Sunday had a nightmare start! There were railworks not only on British rail, but on both the overground AND underground inside of London.  Getting to the venue took 3 and a half hours for us.  It was an all-male Sunday stall.

zero foods

We met the zero foods rep who gave us a sample of their new product that is like cheese, only much, much better (expect a review soon).

Then we had to head for a talk. Alex Mitchell, the massive mound of muscle & might, did an excellent job explaining the ins & outs of planning peoples diets & training, how to best recover, & how simplifying your training can be a good way to actually create a plan you can stick to (way too many people over-complicate the whole issue of diet & training). If you missed that talk, you missed some real knowledge bombs dropped by Alex during the talk!

Shoulder press contest

alex

This years contest was a little bit different.  Every contestant had a choice they could either stand...

sitting

...or sit. The choice was yours! It would be interesting to see how the choice of sitting or standing may affect the results?

crowd

It was standing room only at the start of the contest

more crowd

We don't have pictures, but the crowd grew throughout the event & filled not just the performance hall itself, but blocked the walkways & aisles.

Female contest

This years contest was fierce! Well, actually it was friendly, but the sheer number of entrants meant that winning would be a tough job for anyone. Last years winners Alice had returned hoping to retain the crown, but would she manage it with this amount of competition? The weight was once again 7Kg lifted as many times as possible.

Julie got things started with 29 reps

Jo got a decent 23 reps

Last years winner Alice equaled the leader with 29 reps (one more than last year)

Jade got a commendable 15 reps

Sally got within 1 rep of the current leaders with 28 reps

Zamra pushed out a cracking 23 reps

Martyna pressed her way to 15 reps

Bernadine suddenly upped the stakes by powering out 39 reps

Lousa rose to the challenge & matched her with 39 reps

Inga forced out a fantastic 21 reps

Cait got within one rep of the leaders with 38 reps

Victoria managed a very well fought 17 reps

And finally a woman who didn't write her name clearly at all ended things off with 20 reps

A chat with Patrik

As the weights were being changed we were lucky enough to have Patrik Baboumiam onstage to talk about how a vegan diet has been in keeping him strong, fit & healthy.

Patrik told the crowd how he had broken world records, won world championships & other feats of unbelievable strength all on a vegan diet.

Patrik is a real crowd favourite at the vegfest & is a true inspiration to those wanting to attain great strength without harming other creatures.

Wrap up

Although I said the above were the winners, really everyone who entered was a winner as they all got prizes & went home knowing they helped show that vegans are strong, fit & exceedingly healthy group of people.

We had had an awesome weekend at the London vegfest & it was sad when we finally had to say goodbye to the venue. Hopefully we convinced a few people that giving up animal products is not just ethically the correct thing to do, but also that you can be even more fit & healthy without those foods!

As usual we will leave you with a list of our sponsors again & pictures of contest entrants receiving their prizes. So, check out those photos & then then check out any sponsors that catch your eye.
