 Intro

Maz on the stall as the first people arrive at the show
(Note the woman with the yellow skirt, first to our stall, she will appear later!)

This was a brand new event, in Londons Conway Hall, so we were very excited to have been invited to do a stall & event at the latest vegan event to appear in the UK!

Maz takes control of the event!!!!

It didn't take long before Maz took charge of things at the event, becoming the announcer of all the events, MC of the prize draws & generally the loudest person at the event :-)

The day was VERY busy.  It seems that whole new 'crop' of vegans have sprung up who are all into training & exercise, which is awesome!  It kept everyone busy all day answering stuff & helping people attain their goals.

 Shoes of terror!

I was shocked to see anything like these at the event :-)  Our friend Tim of the Knut's (Editor of the soon to be renamed Vegan(ish) magazine - old name semi vegan [we'll soon get the 'ish' off the end I reckon :-) ]).  Terrifyingly  loud shoes for anyone to wear.  I guess too many nights in the wilds old Scotland had caused eyesight issues or perhaps they are used to scare off predators in the Highlands?  I was too afraid to ask!!!

 Shoulder press contest

Finally the time was approaching.  At first we ended up with a several woman entering, but the men were a bit slower to enter - we were getting a little bit concerned that we'd have no guys at all enter the event until very near the end when we had a rush of entrants that made the contest suddenly very interesting as we had none of the regular entrants involved!  Even so I would like to point out that the females were much more up for the event than the guys, which we all found interesting.  So, one of our goals at VBB in 2013 will have to be getting more guys in shape for our contests.

 Women's contest

As this was a new venue, we had no idea about what to expect from the participants.  So we were very excited at the start of the event

Maz started the event with a quick run down of the rules, some stuff about the sponsors & generally got the crowd buzzing. The woman in the event are lifting 8Kg for as many reps as possible.

This is not what you think...

.

...Vegan women are not incredibly unattractive, this is Mitch giving a
demo of the form to be used :-)

Megyn doubled that by hitting 20 reps

Emi got 11 reps for the straight edge crew

Ruth brought 16 reps to the table

Victoria hit 20 reps

Bernadine suddenly changed the game by getting 39 reps

Chloe got a magnificent 17 reps

That was the finish of the womens event.  It seems we have some very strong women coming to the vegan events!  Next we added a little weight & see if the guys could do as well as the ladies had done!

 Mens Event

The weight this year was slightly over the weight advertised, being closer to 17Kg then 16Kg (we could say sorry, but we aren't, we know vegans are built tough!), so with that said here's the contest.

Olaf got us off to a great start with 5 reps

Andrew upped the ante with an easy press of 18 reps

INTERLUDE  - a rather odd occurrence of an older lady insisting that
she try the dumbbell.  Lady 1 - Mitch 0 in that contest :-)

After everything died down Mat got a tough 10 reps

Kanu got a great 16 reps

Skip brought a game changer with 41 reps

Conan got an Arnold-worthy 12 reps

Jamey ended things with an awesome 26 reps

 Finally

So, that was the end of our first contest at the brand new Summer Vegan fete, for more details about the event click here.  We had a marvellous time there & would like to thank the organisers. If you are at home thinking "I could that contest easily!", then why not come along next year & prove it to us!  Or if you can't wait we do have push-up contest at the West Midlands Vegan Festival in October.

I'll end bunging in the links to our sponsors again, along with a mixture of pictures of  the other contestants getting their prizes, so remember to check out the companies who supported us & buy their stuff!
