 Intro

It was a bitterly cold start to our adventure as we travelled across the frost covered countryside on our way to London, but thankfully the venue was nice & warm.  This year we had the added bonus of Maz launching his new cook book "The chip butty vegan", a book for those new to vegan eating or wanting to entertaining their meat eating friends & family.  So check that out if you want to create some meals that are everyday & yet without the meat!

Kensington Town hall was soon buzzing as the event got going & this year we had an influx of people new to the vegan lifestyle, so it was a very busy stall with information & flyers disappearing at  frantic rate!

 Push-up contest

As usual the highlight of the day for many people was the push-up contest.  We had many new faces, but also some regulars.  This year Coach Gary promised that he was going to be extra-strict & in the men's event was a real battle with last years winner Matt Woodman battling Dave Arnold winner of 5 previous contests, so the tension was at fever pitch as the contestants lined up for the event.

 Sponsors

We would especially like to thank all our sponsors of the event.  Without them we would not have any prizes to give away!  So, if any of them are selling things you might be interested in then do check them out as it's through their gifts that the contests actually happen, so support them so they can support us!

 Female contest

This year Coach Gary decided that this year the ladies were going to do full reps, not as in previous years reps on the knees.  I think most people at the event thought that this was a great move as the support for the females was massive as they fought up to some impress reps using full reps.

Bethan started things off with a decent 15 reps

Beenal managed a mega three quarters of a rep (yes that's less than 1)

Katriona got a hard won 1 rep

Katie also managed 1 rep

Then there was a short interlude for the dancing lady?

Next up rugby playing women showed their stuff with an
explosive 5 reps from Bethany

That was immediately matched by Steph

Daniella stormed to an early lead with 17 reps

Next up came Marcia who first posed a little for the crowd

then went on to get a credible 14 reps

Next up was the person now known as Delicate Flower

Who first wowed the crowd with some posing

Stunned the crowd

& took many applause

Before setting up for the contest

& failing to get one :-)

Then I suspect there may have been some cheating! :-)

Then came Jade who got an outstanding 21 reps, snatching the lead!

Tee actually came late to the contest in between the men, but I'll add
her in here as she stormed in with 28 reps

 Male contest

For the males event Coach Gary decided on a twist & instead of the standard push-up, he introduced a version where one foot was placed above the other.  He also insisted on slower & deeper reps with a full lock-out, something people had claimed were missing from previous years.  So, with all the new rules in place the battle began.

First up was Matthew with an awesome 39 reps

Next up came Adrian who got an incredible 20 reps at 70 years old
(how's that for some vegan power!)

After what seemed like countless restarts Gary got a decent 26 reps

Next up came 'bare foot' Barry with massive 40 reps

Then came last years winner Matt knocking out an easy 48 reps
(after running a race that morning)

Next up was Chris with a blistering 20 reps

Michael was next with suitably impressive 36 reps

Then came 'Super Sab' Dave with 49 reps

Lastly came Jack with a decent 28 reps

In second place by one rep was Matt - who was forced to go topless before the females in the audience would let him have any prizes!

Final thoughts

I'll end by putting up all our sponsors again & some pictures of people receiving their prizes.  I'd like to thank the sponsors again & of course everyone who entered the push-up contest.  Have a great holiday season everyone!
