Intro

Notice the fab new banner folks!

This year we had a lift sorted out to the fayre. So, instead of the trudge to the train station, it was a pick-up from our house! That was a much easier start to the day.
So, with such an easy start we were raring to go when we arrived at the event.
Our stall was a little bit out of the way, you had to go upstairs & find a little corridor off to one side, so if you didn’t find us you now know why. Other than being hard to find, we had a good time & the stall next door was very friendly & we got on well.

Maz eating salad & rice cakes! Need I say more!!!

Grip challenge

The grip challenge started so well! We decided tht ladies had to squeeze 38 Kg & men 90 Kg to win a prize. The first winner was Gemma who squeezed 40 Kg, then Thomas squeezed 90 Kg, then Adam broke the machine (even though he broke it he still got a prize)! So that contest ended prematurely before noon as I never thought to bring a back-up challenge device.

Gemma squeezed 40Kg

Thomas squeezed 90Kg

Adam decided to just break the machine!

Here's what Adam did! (note the spring hanging out)

Push-up contest

This years contest was, as usual, the highlight of the day.  Last years reining male champion Dave Arnold was unable to attend so the way was open for a new champion to emerge.  On the women's side we haven't had a single person dominate like the males so who would win there was anyones guess?  So, it was with great excitement that the contest finally got going under the command of the man with the voice (& the cookbook) Maz.

Sponsors

As usual a quick reminder that it is thanks to these sponsors that we have any contest at all as they supply the prizes.  So, if you are after anything they sell then take a moment to check them out as they are great companies trying to grow our movement.

Male contest

Next up came the males.  This year we had the brothers Wo from Brighton (from a well known vegan martial arts family in Sussex) who cme along with the goal of shaking up the event & bringing the push-up crown back to Sussex.  With last years champion Dave Arnold missing from the contest could super athlete Matt Woodman hold off the attack & claim the push-up crown?

This year the guys had to hold a pause at the bottom of each rep making it many times harder (as we were getting very high rep counts before we had to introduce the 'pause rule').

Jonathon started things off-but first had to do his 'special' warm-up

He didn't forget to warm-up his back

Once he warmed up he got a respectible 29 reps

Guy Managed a very impressive 38 reps

Ran cranked out 28 reps

Arash got 15 (but he did them on his knuckles & his hands left the floor each rep)

Jake hammered out 15 reps

Manhung powered out 50 reps

James got an astonishing 63 reps

Tom crushed 50 reps (best athlete of the day in my view!)

Kayia squeezed out 24 reps

Dev managed an awesome 44 reps

Rajiv got a respectible 26 reps

Matt got 45 reps (after running a 5 mile race that morning, coming third AND being ill!)

Like father, like son(s)

The audience had a surprise treat as Mr Wo  (father of 1 & 2nd place male competitors) came up on stage & demonstrated a few unusual moves like push-up on a single finger, push-up with arms above the head & several other variations that aren't often done.  It was an impressive display & helps explain why the Wo brothers are such hardcore athletes.
